Background and Purpose: Internet addiction is a prevalent behavioral problem among adolescents that can negatively affect mental health, academic performance, and social relationships. The present study aimed to predict internet addiction based on peer relationship quality among high school students in Bandar Abbas.
Method: This correlational-descriptive study was conducted on 321 high school students (188 girls, 133 boys) selected through multi-stage cluster sampling from the 2024–2025 academic year population. Instruments included Internet Addiction Test (Young, 2017) and the Peer Relation Questionnarie (Panagiotou, et al, 2021). Data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis in SPSS-26.
Results: Peer relationship dimensions (trust, communication, and alienation) significantly predicted 35% of the variance in internet addiction (F(3,317)= 57.91, p<0.001, R²=0.35). Trust (β=−0.38, p<0.001) and communication (β=−0.27, p<0.001) were significant negative predictors, whereas alienation (β=0.44, p<0.001) was a significant positive predictor of internet addiction.
Conclusion: High-quality and supportive peer relationships act as a protective factor against internet addiction. It is recommended that school-based programs focusing on enhancing communication and friendship skills be implemented in Bandar Abbas.
