Background and Aim: Addiction to social networks has emerged as a common phenomenon in modern society, potentially causing various psychological and social consequences. This study aimed to identify the contributing factors and psychological impacts of social network addiction.
Methods: This research was conducted using a systematic review methodology. Relevant articles and resources were retrieved from credible databases, screened based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, and analyzed. The data were thematically categorized, and findings were reported in line with the study objectives.
Findings: The results revealed that factors such as loneliness, dysfunctional family performance, poor social skills, and low self-control are significant contributors to social network addiction. Identified consequences include psychological distress, decreased mental health, reduced academic performance, sleep disorders, eating disorders, and an increased risk of suicidal ideation.
Conclusion: Social network addiction has numerous adverse effects on mental health and social well-being. It is recommended that preventive and therapeutic programs focus on mitigating the contributing factors and associated consequences. Strengthening life skills, self-control, and family interactions may help reduce these harms.
