Abstract: (1070 Views)
Background and Purpose: Divorce is a stressful family experience that can lead to conflicts and emotional incompatibilities between spouses. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on tolerance of ambiguity and emotional expressiveness in divorced women seeking welfare services.
Method: This quasi-experimental study employed a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of women seeking welfare services in Tabriz during the first six months of 2022. Forty participants were selected through purposive sampling and randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group, with 20 participants in each. Participants completed the Ambiguity Tolerance Questionnaire (McLean, 1993) and the Emotional Expressiveness Questionnaire (Taylor et al., 1997) in both pretest and posttest phases. The data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
Findings: The results indicated that ACT was effective in improving tolerance of ambiguity and emotional expressiveness.
Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and its components are effective. Therefore, it is recommended that psychologists and counselors be trained in ACT as an effective strategy for intervention with clients experiencing emotional difficulties.
