Abstract:   (443 Views)
Background and Purpose: Individuals with high body mass index (BMI) often struggle with inadequate coping skills and may not effectively deal with stress and emotional eating behaviors. Therefore, the aim of the current research was to investigate the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on body image and happiness among women with a BMI greater than 30 seeking weight loss.
Method: This study employed a quasi-experimental pre-posttest design with a control group. The statistical population consisted of women with a BMI over 30 seeking weight loss treatment in Tehran. Forty participants were selected from this population through convenience sampling and voluntarily assigned into two groups of 20, experimental and control. Participants in both groups completed the Body Image Questionnaire (Cash et al., 1985) and the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire (
Hills, & Argyle, 2002). The experimental group received nine sessions of group CBT. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS-22.
Findings: Covariance analysis results indicated that CBT led to improvements in body image and increased happiness among women with a BMI greater than 30 seeking weight loss.
Conclusion: CBT can be an effective treatment method for weight reduction, and professionals in this field can utilize the findings of this study in their treatments and interventions.
