Background and Aim: The marital relationship is an extremely important part of human life, influenced by behaviors and interactions. Positive emotions are essential to its strength and health of athletes. They also experience marital issues that require professional help. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of group transactional analysis (TA) on positive feelings toward spouses among married athletes women attending a local sport complexes.
Method: This is a quasi-experimental study with a pre-tesst and post-test design with a control group. The population consisted of athletes women attending local sport complexes in the 5th District of Tehran, with a total population of 198, all of whom were evaluated. The sample consisted of 40 participants who recieves a score below the mean on the questionnaire. They were then randomly assigned to two groups (20 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group). Positive feelings toward their spouses were assessed using a validated questionnaire on pre-test and post-test. The experimental group received 12 sessions of group TA, while the control group received no intervention. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) were used for data analysis.
Findings: The ANCOVA results indicated that group TA increased positive feelings toward spouses in the experimental group compared to the control group.
Conclusions: Therefore, it can be concluded that TA training is an effective way to improve on positive feelings toward spouses as a marital satisfaction component and is recommended for use in couples therapy counseling sessions of athletes women.
