Background and purpose: Alcohol use disorder (AUD) is an important problem in the field of public health. Alcoholism is a serious disease. In addition to psychological damage such as anxiety, depression, etc., this addiction also causes severe physical damage. The current study was prepared with the aim of investigating alcohol addiction, especially among athletes.
Method: This article is a review study that has been prepared and prepared with the library method and by studying and reviewing researches related to the subject and by referring to foreign reference sites.
Findings: According to what is obtained from this article, the prevalence of alcohol consumption disorder is high among patients with severe mental disorders. Young age, shock and bipolar disorders, poor social support, stress were factors related to this problem. Alcohol addiction affects both mental and physical aspects. In general, investigating the epidemiology of the prevalence of alcoholism among athletes requires the investigation of various factors such as the type of sport, culture and traditions related to alcohol consumption, sports culture, and economic and social conditions.
Conclusion: Prevention of alcohol addiction is also very important. Educating people about the dangers of alcohol consumption, promoting a healthy lifestyle, creating healthy environments and supporting people at risk are ways to prevent alcoholism.
