Background and Purpose: Individuals with high self-efficacy and effective self-regulation skills often manage their body weight better. This study aimed to determine the relationship between self-efficacy, self-regulation, and Body Mass Index (BMI) among high school girl students.
Methods: This correlational descriptive survey was conducted on a sample of 212 third-year female high school students in Tehran, selected through random sampling from schools in district 1 and 7 of Tehran. Participants completed the Self-Efficacy Scale (Sherer et al., 1982) and the Self-Regulation Questionnaire (Brown et.al., 1999). Data were analyzed using correlation and multiple regression analysis methods with SPSS-22.
Results: The results indicated a significant relationship between self-regulation, self-efficacy, and BMI. Specifically, self-regulation was identified as a significant predictor of BMI. Further analysis indicated that self-regulation can significantly predict BMI among students.
Conclusion: This study provides evidence that self-regulation and self-efficacy are important factors in managing body weight among high school female students. Interventions aimed at enhancing self-regulation skills could be beneficial in controlling BMI in this population.
