Background and Purpose: Sleep disturbances are common among children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), adversely affecting their overall well-being and functioning. Physical activity and neurofeedback training have been proposed as potential interventions to improve sleep quality in this population; however, research on the effectiveness of combined interventions is limited. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of combined physical activity and neurofeedback training in improving sleep quality in children with ADHD.
Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted involving children diagnosed with ADHD. Participants were randomly assigned to either a combined intervention group receiving physical activity training and neurofeedback sessions or a control group. Sleep quality was assessed using Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (Owens et al. 2000) before and after the intervention period. Data were analyzed in SPSS-21.
Results: Preliminary analysis of the data indicates a significant improvement in sleep quality among children in the combined intervention group compared to the control group. Specifically, children who underwent combined physical activity and neurofeedback training indicated reductions in sleep latency, wake after sleep onset, and improvements in sleep efficiency and overall sleep quality.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that combined physical activity and neurofeedback training may be an effective intervention for improving sleep quality in children with ADHD. Integrating these interventions into clinical practice may offer a promising approach to addressing sleep disturbances in this population.
