Background and Purpose: Coaching behaviors play a crucial role in athlete satisfaction and performance outcomes. However, research exploring this relationship, particularly in chess players, is limited. Conversely, this study aimed to examine the relationship between coaching behaviors and athlete satisfaction using a multidisciplinary correlational approach.
Method: In this research, a correlational design was employed to investigate the relationship between coaching behaviors and athlete satisfaction. The study included a sample of chess athletes from Tehran. Participants completed the Satisfaction Scale For Athlete (Caliskan & Baydar, 2016) and the Coaching Behavior Questionnaire (Cote et al., 1999). Data were analyzed using correlation analysis in SPSS-24.
Findings: The results demonstrated a significant correlation between specific coaching behaviors and athlete satisfaction levels. Positive coaching behaviors such as training and planning, technical skills, mental preparedness, competitive strategies, and personal rapport were associated with higher levels of athlete satisfaction. Conversely, negative interpersonal behaviors were correlated with lower athlete satisfaction levels.
Conclusion: This study underscores the importance of coaching behaviors in shaping chess athletes' satisfaction. By identifying key coaching behaviors influencing athlete satisfaction, coaches and sports managers can implement strategies to enhance athletes' positive experiences and optimize performance outcomes.
