</abstract_fa>
	<abstract>
Background and Purpose: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor symptoms, including bradykinesia, muscular rigidity, resting tremor, and gait and balance disturbances. Although pharmacological treatment, particularly dopaminergic therapy, remains the cornerstone of symptom management, optimal control of motor symptoms is not achieved in some patients, and treatment response may decline over time. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has attracted increasing attention as a non-invasive method for modulating cortical activity. The present case report aimed to describe changes in motor symptoms following a course of rTMS in a patient with Parkinson’s disease.
Methods: This study was conducted as a case report. An 82-year-old male patient with a 5-year history of Parkinson’s disease presented with tremor, bradykinesia accompanied by gait disturbance, and impaired balance. The patient was assessed using the Movement Disorder Society–Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS; Goetz et al., 2008). The patient was receiving pharmacological treatment before the intervention, and his medication regimen remained unchanged throughout the intervention period. The patient received 20 sessions of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation over a 10-week period. Stimulation was administered over the primary motor cortex (M1).
Results: Following completion of the treatment course, improvements in the patient’s motor symptoms were observed. The MDS-UPDRS Part III score decreased from 41 at baseline to 18 after the intervention, representing a 56.1% reduction in the motor examination score. Improvements were also observed in tremor, bradykinesia, muscular rigidity, gait, balance, and upper-limb function. The observed improvements remained stable during the 3-month follow-up period. No adverse events were reported during the treatment period.
Conclusion: In this patient with Parkinson’s disease, a course of rTMS was associated with improvements in motor symptom measures. This case suggests that rTMS may represent a potentially useful non-invasive adjunctive intervention for the management of motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease. However, further controlled studies with larger samples are required to determine the efficacy, durability, and optimal parameters of rTMS for motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease.
</abstract>
